You will be expected to complete the record sheet daily and your
physiotherapist will make regular contact either via video call or
telephone to monitor your progress with your programme.
At the end of your 12 week programme you will have a follow up
appointment with your physiotherapist when you will have your
final assessment and repeat your walk test.
Your exercise programme will consist of 2 components:
• Strength/resistance training
• Aerobic activity
Duration of each session: Approximately 30 mins of each.
Frequency: 3 time's weekly at a minimum, however your
physiotherapist will guide you in relation to this.
What is aerobic exercise training?
Aerobic exercise is also known as "cardio" exercise training.
Aerobic training is any physical activity that has the ability to raise
your heart rate to your target range (calculated by your physio) and
maintain this level for a minimum of 20-30 consecutive minutes.
Make sure you follow the advice from your dietician to ensure you
are nutritionally maximised and able to exercise.
What is Resistance training?
Resistance training is also known as strength training.
Resistance training helps you build muscle mass and strength that
you may have lost due to your liver disease progression.
Resistance training along with the appropriate nutritional advice
from your liver dietician is very important to ensure you can safely
build muscle mass and strength.
