In discussion with the perpetrator the social
worker (with the benefit of having completed a
check on the perpetrator's history) should
consider the following (from SARA v3 2015):
If the perpetrator has a history of violence
within intimate relationships, general
violence or, has been exposed to parental
violence within his family of origin, he may
normalise DV as a means of managing
conflict in relationships. If violence is
condoned within his family or peer group,
he may lack insight into / understanding
with regard his harmful behaviour.
If the perpetrator has a history of significant
mental ill health, this can lead to impulsive
or irrational decisions to use violence within
an intimate relationship.
Research shows that it is common to find
